GLS Spain introduces GDP compliant PharmaService

  • Certified dispatch of pharmaceuticals
  • For non-temperature-sensitive products
  • Further advantages for recipients

Madrid, 1 July 2020: Consignors and consignees must be able to rely on the quality and integrity of their goods, especially when it comes to sensitive medical products. To ensure this, GLS Spain now offers GDP-compliant shipping for non-temperature-sensitive products. All GLS Spain own depots and hubs have been certified by DEKRA.

The health and pharmaceutical industry is one of the country's most important economic sectors, and demand for its products is growing. But the demands on logistics are high. The industry expects certification in accordance with the European guidelines of Good Distribution Practice for pharmaceuticals in order to ensure a strictly monitored transport chain.

"We are observing that there is an increased demand for qualified services," says Luis Doncel, General Manager Iberia at GLS. "This has prompted us to support our customers now in the growing health and pharmaceutical sector and to offer them a tailor-made service that meets particularly high quality and safety standards".

Safe and practical for recipients

The new PharmaService from GLS Spain is not only compliant with the strict European Directive 2013/C 343/01, but offers even more advantages. Business and private recipients can have their parcels delivered by 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. They also have the option of confirming receipt of the parcel digitally on their own mobile device via the new ContactlessSign solution.

GLS Spain delivers the shipments exclusively to the designated recipient. An alternative delivery, for example to a neighbour or a ParcelShop, is excluded. In addition, the current shipping status can be tracked online in real time from the time the parcel is picked up from the sender to the delivery.

GDP-compliant parcel processing

GLS Spain received the GDP certification at the end of last month. It attests that companies have particularly reliable, safe and hygienic procedures – a cornerstone of the PharmaService. To achieve this, the parcel service provider adapted the operational processes at its own locations.

Among other things, the hygiene management in all depots and hubs, for all vehicles and personnel was expanded and further standardised. Furthermore, GLS Spain expanded the training system for all employees, for the over 460 agencies, for the transport partners and their delivery drivers.

GLS holds GDP certifications in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France and Ireland. In addition, the quality and environmental management system of the GLS Group is certified throughout Europe according to the internationally recognized standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
